Planet Poker was the first real money online poker room, launching in January 1998. It was one of the top rooms ever since launch, however, Planet Poker experienced security problems in 1999 with their shuffling algorithm. They did get the issue worked out but suffered a huge blow in player trust.

Since late 1999, legendary pro Mike Caro has been part of their team and they have been trying to rebuild their credibility. They lingered on for several years never really able to see that huge growth in player base that many other sites saw in the early to mid 2000’s as a result they decided to discontinue real money play on March 31st 2007. They still allow play money play for their existing customers.
