DoylesRoom Review
DoylesRoom is the flagship poker room of perhaps the most famous poker player of all time, 10-time bracelet winner legend Doyle Brunson. DoylesRoom was once on the Tribeca network, the same as Golden Palace Poker, another popular poker room. However, as of April 2007 they have switched networks and joined the Microgaming Poker Network (Prima) family of sites. It is a medium to large network with about 20k total players at peak times. If you have played at any of the skins from that network such as Royal Vegas Poker or Gaming Club Poker you will get easily accustomed to the new DoylesRoom. Brunson himself plays at DoylesRoom under the screen name TexDolly, so if you are up for the challenge you can take him on. Other famous poker pros play at the site as well, such as Doyle’s son, Todd Brunson, and legendary pros Mike Caro, Minh Ly and Men Nguyen The Microgaming Poker Network offers a full line-up of casino games as well, and players can transfer funds from one central account to the poker room or to any of the casino games such as Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, etc. So if you are looking for the full online casino experience this is the place for you.
DoylesRoom Game Types:
DoylesRoom offers No Limit, Pot Limit, and Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em, Pot Limit and Fixed Limit Omaha Hi and Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, and 5 Card Stud. Stakes range from micro ‘’Beginners Games” of a nickel all the way up to $100/$200 for both Fixed and No Limit games. Most of the Fixed Limit Hold’em action is at the $0.50/$1 through $2/$4 tables, whereas No Limit players primarily stick to $2/$4 and lower. There is almost no action at the Fixed Limit Omaha tables – if you are looking to play Omaha at DoylesRoom, you will need to stick with Pot Limit and even there the action is only marginal at the lower limits, while above $1/2 the action is very scarce.
DoylesRoom also has plenty of tournaments from which to choose. Many Sit and Go options are available, from standard 10-person contests, to short-handed, heads-up, and multi-table games. Additionally, DoylesRoom has “Rounders” tables, which are special Sit-and-Go’s which give players the chance to win big money for a small buy-in. The Rounders tournaments consist of five levels – the top finishers in one level advance to the next. Some players will be able to redo a level, depending on finish, while the rest will have to start over. Players can also buy-in directly to any of the levels. Level one is only a $5 + $0.50 buy-in, but if you make it to level five (a $550 + $55 buy-in) you can win up to $3,000. They also offer an ‘Extreme Stack’ Sit and Go format where the starting chip count is 2,000 and stakes increase every 10 minutes.
Of course, Multi-Table tournaments are also abundant at DoylesRoom. They have guaranteed prize pools including the big ‘Sunday Showdown’ which is $200k, re-buys, freezeouts, and freerolls among other choices. The structure at Doyle’s Room is good, too – players start with 1,500 chips and blinds only go up every twelve minutes, so there is plenty of time to play solid poker.
Like most online poker rooms, DoylesRoom holds tournaments in which players can win seats to prestigious live poker events. Satellites, in the form of both Sit-and-Go’s and Multi-Table tournaments, are running around the clock. DoylesRoom offers a great line-up of World Series of Poker (WSOP) satellites with several launching daily. In addition to awarding seats at the main event, players will have the choice to compete for seats into other events, such as stud and Omaha.
DoylesRoom offers a large initial deposit bonus of 50% up to $250, but it is very, very hard to clear. They also have a loyalty program where you earn ‘Action Points’ for real money play in both cash games and tourneys; you can later exchange the points for cash.
DoylesRoom Software and Features:
DoylesRoom software is just average. The dealer action is smooth but not particularly fast. There is a text history account of the table action that scrolls up the right side of the card room. The sound effects are clear and do not take away from the game. On the poker table, your hand rank is displayed as text (i.e. One pair- Six’s), which can be helpful to the beginners. The tables are 10-player max and they also offer short handed 6 player tables.
The card room graphics in DoylesRoom are clear and easy on the eyes. The green table top is large and the player’s seats are well spaced providing a nice contrast to the gray carpet. There are no avatars available nor coffee tables or plants to distract from the game. The card room in general is very sparse and professional looking. If you like a room with many graphics you will be disappointed. They offer a player chat window as well which is very easy to use, and they support multi-tabling for those who are interested.
A unique and fun feature that sets them DoylesRoom aside from other poker rooms is that players are able to create their own private games: players can choose to set up cash games, SNG’s and Multi-Table tournaments.
The Main Lobby is very well laid out with a navigation tree on the left to help you find your favorite games. The lobby filters are very easy to use and players can navigate through the game selection with minimal effort. The lobby game columns provide the usual information, with fields such as player/flop, average pot size, and hands per hour. They also offer a Bad Beat jackpot with a running, real time total which is often over $10k, so that you have a chance of cashing even if you take a bad beat.
Statistics and note-taking are available at the tables. Hand histories can also be requested, as well as stored on your hard drive. DoylesRoom has a player search function, but no buddy list feature.
DoylesRoom Behind the Scenes at:
DoylesRoom offers customer service via e-mail, a toll free telephone number, and live online chat. Customer service representatives are usually helpful and friendly on live chat, but there have been some quality issues with e-mail responses (although response time is usually fast).
DoylesRoom uses the 128-bit encryption technology when transferring data over the Internet. The way this top-of-the-line system works to keep players and their money safe at DoylesRoom, is by issuing each player with a unique account number, which is protected by a secret password that they alone can access.
Like all Microgaming rooms, DoylesRoom’s software is secure and no customer information is ever available outside of DoylesRoom’s internal network. Microgaming and DoylesRoom have developed algorithms to help detect collusion at the tables and Doyle’s Room also employs agents who proactively seek out cheaters.
