True poker has positioned itself as the "real deal" poker room, with high-end graphics, avatars and sound effects. With recent enhancements to the software, now the speed of the games is good, making True Poker a very good choice for players looking for a great 3D-feel. True Poker launched in May 2001 and has been heavily marketed but has not grown significantly in terms of traffic, averaging less than 3,000 players at peak times.

True Poker offers Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hi and Hi/Lo. They do not offer any other poker games or casino games at the time of this writing, so if you are looking for any other type of action you are out of luck here.

As for the Texas Hold’em games,  you have a choice of No Limit, Pot Limit and Limit. The stakes start at $0.10/0.20 and cap out at $5/10. The action is ok at the lower limits at peak time but of course the selection of tables is not as great compared to bigger sites. They have two Pot Limit tables a $0.50/1 and a $1/2 and they don’t get much action. The Texas Hold’em Limit tables at True Poker range from $0.10/0.20 up to $15/30. You can find a few tables with some action at the lower limits during peak times.

The Omaha action at True Poker is not relevant at this time. Players will not find more that a couple of tables going at peak times if any at all. True Poker has a way to go before they attract any Omaha action what-so-ever.

The tourney line up is about what you would expect from a site this size. They offer Regular, Guaranteed and Sit and Go’s for both Texas Hold’em and Omaha games. The buy-ins and prize pools have a descent range. True Poker’s big weekly Guaranteed tourney is a $6,000 with a $50+5 buy-in. They offer a variety of other tourneys throughout the week.

The software of True Poker is truly unique. They offer a 3-D look which nobody else does. The graphics are good and the room looks like a real poker room from a CGI stand point. The online poker purist won’t like it but the casual poker player may like the effects. The software application is huge as you might expect since it must support the 3-D effect. For that reason, the software can bog down from time to time while navigating the site but in the card room the action is pretty smooth.

The dealer action is fast. The table is clean; they don’t even have their True Poker logo on it! The 3-D graphics are good, giving the player a more video game feel to the room than any other site on-line. The player ‘avatars’ are animated and have a number of hand gestures and other actions (some players are even depicted as smoking) which is a novelty, however, some players may find it a bit annoying. In an effort to complete the ‘real poker room’ experience there are a variety of voice sound effects from the dealer such as ‘Starting a new hand” and from the players such as “bet” or “fold”. This feature can be turned off if you choose.

The pot total is displayed but not very prominently, you have look for it. The seating position is always the same for the player, at bottom center however only your arms are visible as you play poker from a first person point of view. The True Poker table itself is oval with the apexes at the top and bottom of the screen so your view is a little different from most of the other sites.

True Poker offers a chat feature so players can interact with each other. They also have a game history window. Both are easy to use. They do now offer other advance features such as a ‘stats’ button and note taking capabilities and mult –table play (up to 4). In the past, True Poker seemed to focus on the 3-D graphics and not much on the other features that poker players have come to expect in a poker room. This attitude has been changing as they struggle to remain competitive in the very crowded on-line gaming market place.

The main lobby is easy to navigate through and the filters help you find what you are looking for. True Poker displays the necessary game information such as; average pot size, player/flop, and hands/hour. The main lobby page is clear and uncluttered. They do not have a bunch of banners or pop-ups to distract you. True Poker offers ‘hot” keys for certain actions such as F7 for bet and raise functions, if you so choose to use them.

The first time deposit bonus at True Poker is 100% up to $200 which is a nice sign up bonus. They do have re-load bonuses every couple of months and they are usually pretty high for instance 75% up to $225 etc. The bonuses are not particularly hard to clear but you have only 40 days to work it off. It releases in $10 increments.

True Poker offers a loyalty VIP program. The VIP program will pay a cash award during each month a player is eligible based on a VIP's play during the prior month and the overall record of play. The more a VIP plays the greater his VIP cash award is the following month. Under the VIP program, any raked hand qualifies if you were dealt in. True Pokers VIP players list is updated at the beginning of every month, True Pokers system will automatically upgrade a players account to VIP status for the following month, once they become eligible.
