Royal Vegas Poker Review
Royal Vegas Poker is part of the Fortune Lounge Group which uses the Microgaming Poker Network (formerly known as Prima Poker) software and shared player base. Do you have that straight now? Just as most other poker rooms connected to the Microgaming Poker Network, the connection to an online casino makes it convenient for players who like to use their funds for both poker and other forms of online gaming. If you have played at some of the other skin sites of the Microgaming network such as Crazy Poker, then you will be right at home here as well, as they share the same software platform. It is a medium to large network with about 20k players online at peak times.
Royal Vegas Poker Game Types:
Royal Vegas Poker offers a choice of six cash games; Texas Hold'em, 5 Card Draw, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Stud.
The Texas Hold'em games are broken down into several categories. They have a selection of Bad Beat tables where you can get paid out if you suffer a, you guessed it, bad beat. There are of course rules to it but at least if you are beat with a four-of-a-kind, 8s or better you have a shot at some cash! Royal Vegas Poker offers a good selection of beginners Games, which are their micro stakes tables and starts at $0.05/$0.10 for NL, PL and Fixed Limit. They are of course very popular for the newbie who is just getting their feet wet on real money play.
The Fixed Limit lineup is huge. You have a choice of: Heads Up games that range from $0.50/$1.00 up to $50/$100 and everything in between, Turbo Games with a range of $1/$2 up to $20/$40 where the pace of the action is sped up by giving the bettor a shorter time to act than a standard non turbo ring game. This is a neat tourney format for the impatient player or if you've got limited time to play. Royal Vegas Poker's selection of regular Fixed Limit games covers every possible blind limit between $0.05/$0.10 through $150/$300. The action is good throughout the range during peak hours.
The Pot Limit lineup is equally as extensive with Heads Up tables up from $0.25/$0.50 up to $10/20. Their regular Pot Limit tables start at $0.50/$1.00 and go all the way up to $100/$200, again the traffic at the higher limits is better at peak times.
Royal Vegas Poker No Limit choices are Heads Up, Turbo Games and of course regular NL ring games. The NL Heads Up offers games from $0.50/$1.00 up to $200/$400, so if you are looking to work on that aspect of your game you can find action that suits your wallet. The Royal Vegas Poker NL Turbo Games range from $1/$2 and cap out at $20/40 and their regular NL range from $0.05/$0.10 to $200/$400. The lower to mid range ($20/$40) games have action at almost any time of day or night. The big stakes get the most action at peak hours.
Royal Vegas Poker offers a good selection of 5 Card Stud and 5 Card Draw games as well which covers Fixed Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit. There is good action at the lower limits of 5 Card Draw NL throughout the day again with the peak hours really picking up. They are one of the better sites for 5 Card Draw in terms of action. The tables range from $0.10/$0.20 to $10/$20 for 5 Card Draw and 5 Card Stud from $2/$4 up to $50/$100.
The 7 Card Stud action is pretty much non existent off peak hours and not much better during prime time. They do offer Fixed Limit, Pot Limit and No Limits games as well.
Royal Vegas Poker's line up of Omaha covers Fixed Limit (not much action there at any time of day), Pot Limit which does have action at the lower limits at peak times and No Limit which has some action at peak times as well. They do offer Heads Up Omaha games for all limit structures. The Omaha Hi/Lo games are about the same as the regular but with less action. They do offer a good range of limits from $0.05/$0.10 up to $150/$300. The Omaha table stakes are there to meet anyone needs but unfortunately the action is not.
They have a very extensive Sit and Go Tournament schedule that covers single table action with lots of blind limits to choose from. The Multi-Table SNGs have a variety of game styles such as Freezeout which is standard SNG format, Speed Play where the blinds raise every 5 minutes and the players have 7 seconds to act and then there is Extreme Turbo where the stakes raise every 2 minutes. They offer all kinds of seat limits from heads up, to 3 player, 5 players and on up to 20 player SNGs. These are very popular and fill up fast at peak times. Additionally, Royal Vegas Poker has Rounders tables, which are special Sit-and-Gos which give players the chance to win big money for a small buy-in. The Rounders tournaments consist of five levels the top finishers in one level advance to the next.
The Multi-Table Tournaments are quite popular. Royal Vegas Poker offers satellites to their big Sunday $200,000 and $400,000 Guaranteed tournaments as well as WSOP qualifiers. They have a good selection of re-buy guaranteed and non re-buys daily.
As part of the Prima Network, Royal Vegas Poker has a host of casino games as well, that you can quickly and easily access and fund right from the same account as you use to fund your poker play. This may or may not be a good thing for some players.
Royal Vegas Poker Software and Features:
Anyone who has played at any of the Prima Poker rooms will be immediately familiar with the Royal Vegas Poker software. The lobby is easy to navigate, with a tree on the left side to select the game type and drill-down folders for limit and stakes. Table listings show average pot size, percent of players to the flop, hands per hour, and waiting list size. The waitlist feature is easy to use, but it can be a bit of a task to remove yourself from multiple waiting lists, as this can only be done manually.
The card room layout at Royal Vegas Poker takes the simple approach the table graphics simple and unadorned. No avatars, no pictures to upload, no drinks, nothing. They offer easy to read standard, as well as, with a four-color deck option. If fancy colors and graphics greatly enhance your poker playing experience, Royal Vegas Poker will disappoint you. The sound effects are clear and do not take away from the game. On the card table, they display in text form what your hand rank is i.e. One pair- Six's. This feature can be helpful to the beginners. The tables are 10 player max and they do offer short handed 6 player tables as well. If are looking for smooth-running tables, give it a whirl.
Perhaps the best feature of the Royal Vegas Poker software is the mini-table view. Mini view shrinks the table down to a small rectangle, with only the basic information and graphics displayed. This feature is fantastic for those who want to play more than one table at a time, as four tables will easily fit on most standard monitors.
Statistics and note-taking are available at the tables. Hand histories can also be requested, as well as stored on your hard drive, if you so desire. While Royal Vegas Poker has a player search function, it does not have a buddy list feature that many other poker rooms have.
One downside to the Royal Vegas Poker software is that it can be a bit resource-intensive when several tables are open. Its not as bad as some rooms, but it could be better.
They do offer regular first time deposit sign up bonuses usually around of 50% up to $50 to the $200 range with a play through requirement. Royal Vegas Poker has a loyalty program where you earn points for real money play and then can exchange the points for cash.
