888 Pacific Poker  Review

888 Pacific Poker is operated by Cassava Enterprises (Gibraltar) Ltd. which also owns and operates Casino-on-Net, which has been on-line since 1996. On the positive side, there are very juicy Limit Texas Hold'em games on 888 Pacific Poker, where the view flop percentage in full ring games often is in the 60’s and 70’s. This alone, makes the site worth your while if you're a Limit Hold'em player looking for a good hourly win rate. On the negative side, there is quite a lot to complain about. The software is a bit on the slow side, and the graphics leave room for major improvement. The traffic is very concentrated to the Hold'em games, however, since they have blocked US players from the site and have been focusing on the Euro market, the Omaha games have picked up a bit at the lower stakes.

888 Pacific Poker  Game Types:

888 Pacific Poker offers Texas Hold’em, Omaha (Hi and Hi/Lo), 7 Cards Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi /Lo.

The Texas Hold’em tables are where most of the action is at. They offer No Limit, Pot Limit and Limit action. The NL stakes go from $0.05/$0.10 to $10/$20. The action is good at most times of the day and the player/flop percentages are very high for the most part; at times you can find tables that are up to 70%+ range which can make for some very exciting and profitable poker playing. 888 Pacific Poker’s PL tables range from $0.05/$0.10 up to $1/$2. The action is not bad here but the stakes are very limited compared to most other sites. Again the player/flop percentages are very high, often in the 60-70% range. The Limit stakes range from $0.05/$0.10 to $75/$150. Here is where most of the Texas Hold’em action is concentrated. When 888 Pacific Poker started out they only offered Limit, so as a result, they have retained their Limit reputation site and players who are looking for Limit games will find the action they want. The player/flop percentage here will not disappoint either, with tables hitting the 70% range as well.

Omaha at 888 Pacific Poker has picked up recently with their marketing focus on Europe and the south pacific. They offer Omaha Hi stakes from $0.05/$0.10 to $30/60 with most of the over all Omaha action at the Hi tables. They offer both Limit and Pot Limit. The Omaha Hi/Lo traffic is brisk and you might have to wait a good while before someone will sit down with you at a higher stake table. The stakes here are the same as the Omaha Hi tables with a range of $0.05/$0.10 to $30/60.

888 Pacific Poker’s 7 Card action has been picking up lately as well. The 7 Card Stud stakes range form $0.25/$0.50 to $30/60, however most of the action is at the lower stakes. The 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo stake range from $0.10/$0.20 to $15/30 but there is seldom action at any of the tables in the 7 Stud H/L lobby.

The full range of tournaments is offered by 888 Pacific Poker. The Sit and Go’s cover a wide range of seats and buy-ins. They offer 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 20, 30, 50 seat SNG’s which I believe is the most diverse offering online. The buy-ins range from $0.25 up to $750+ $35 and the lower buy-ins fill up fairly quickly especially at peak times. 888 Pacific Poker offers Multi-Table Tournaments in both the guaranteed and non guaranteed format. Their biggest guaranteed tourney is a weekly $75,000 at the time of this writing. They do offer lots of satellites for this event so if you don’t want to put up the full buy-in you can try to win your way in.

888 Pacific Poker also offers ‘Fast’ tournaments. These are SNG tournaments where the blinds and the player’s time to act are faster than normal. This does help the action move much quicker and can be a lot of fun if you are up for it.

888 Pacific Poker  Software and Features:

As stated earlier, 888 Pacific Poker’s software is not the best in the business. It is a bit ‘glitchy’ from a graphics stand point and disconnects seem to be an on going issue. The graphics themselves are not bad. The room is clean with good spacing between players; however the carpet is a bit busy. The dealer speed is average and the card images are a bit hard to read at a glance and take some time getting used to. The time for players to act is about standard at 18 seconds.

A draw back of 888 Pacific Poker is that the pot size is not displayed on the table until after a betting round as opposed to during the betting round. This can be quite annoying if you are not 100% focused on the table at all times. There are no cartoon avatars which is a plus.

A few more negatives of 888 Pacific Poker software and features: the chat feature is awful. It is a separate pop up window rather than integrated into the poker room. Pacific Poker does not offer a ‘stats’ button. This of course would be very handy for the more serious poker player by providing a quick look at their stats to help them analyze their play. The hand history feature is not cutting edge and a bit cumbersome. Over all Pacific Poker lacks the technological features that most of the bigger sites have.

The software from a usability standpoint is fairly straight forward and easy. A player’s account balance is updated real time, which is a plus. The main lobby at Pacific Poker is easy to navigate through. The filters allow you to find the game you are looking fairly quickly. The lobby board offers the standard information such as game stakes, average pot size, players/flop, hands/hour. The player/flop is an interesting stat to look at when choosing a table.

If you are into multi-tabling, 888 Pacific Poker software can support up to 5 tables at once but it can be a bit resource intensive on your PC.

888 Pacific Poker does offer a sign up bonus of 25% up to $100. It is moderately difficult to clear, however it will expire after 90 days so you have three month to grind it out which is a bit longer than some other sites. They do not have history of offering reload bonuses.
