WSOP Weekend Update - June 19

By Dan Katz
Published: Monday, June 20, 2005

Three tournaments ran simultaneously Sunday in a busy day at the World Series of Poker. Only one event saw a champion crowned, however. Quinn Do, making his second final table appearance in three days, got over the hump this time and won the $2,500 Limit Hold’em event, pocketing $265,975. It was an impressive victory, as he started the final table with almost one-third the chip stack of the leader and eventually found himself in 9th place and all-in for his last few chips. After doubling up, Do made a quick rise to the top of the heap and didn’t look back.

The final table was set in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event, and it should be quite a battle. Barry Greenstein, Paul Maxfield, Toto Leonidas, and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, headline a strong cast of players. Phil Hellmuth technically made the final table, as well, but he busted out in the same hand as Jay Heimowitz, the 11th place finisher, so he won’t actually be making an appearance in the event on Monday.

The third tournament Sunday, the $2,000 Seven Card Stud High-Low 8/B contest, finished play with 31 players still remaining, and will pick up Monday afternoon to continue working towards a champion. Alan Boston is the current chip leader.
