The first event of the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe kicked off Thursday with 105 players slapping down £2,500 (approximately $5,000 USD) for the three day H.O.R.S.E. event.  The Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square, London is the host for this event.

Two other casinos, the Fifty and the Sportsman will also be venues featured at the 2007 WSOP Europe.  The Empire will be the host for the next event, the £5,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament, which starts on September 8.  All three casinos will be used when the six-day, £10,000 no-limit Texas hold'Em championship begins on September 10.  The field will be combined at the Empire on September 13.

American Kirk Morrison leads the H.O.R.S.E. event after day one with 55,900 chips.  He is followed by Denmark’s Jan Sorensen with 50,100, England’s Gary Jones with 41,900, American Jennifer Harman with 38,100, and Frenchman Pascal Perrault with 35,200.  The field was trimmed in half after the first day, as 51 players remain.  They will play down to the final table on Friday.
