WPT Starts Subscription-Based Poker Room

The World Poker Tour has launched a subscription-based online poker room in order to give Americans, among others, a legal opportunity to win prizes by playing internet poker.  ClubWPT.com costs $19.95 per month after a two-week free trial. 

ClubWPT is able to get around online gambling laws because it is technically providing “benefits” to members, while on the side also providing poker and blackjack tournaments that offer real prizes.  These “benefits” include subscriptions to All In magazine and the Las Vegas Advisor, as well as access to valuable Las Vegas coupons.  In the meantime, ClubWPT will hold thousands of tournaments per month where members can win cash and prizes. 

ClubWPT is open to residents of Australia, Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  Not everyone in the U.S. is allowed to play, however, as some states do have laws against this sort of club.  For the complete list of eligible states, check ClubWPT’s website.
