Ultimate Bet Adds New Games

By
Published: Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Online poker room, Ultimate Bet, already one of the rooms with some of the best game variety, added five new game types today: H.O.R.S.E., H.O.S.E., Razz, Half No-Limit Hold’em/Half Omaha (H.O.), and bounty tournaments. The H.O.R.S.E., H.O.S.E., AND H.O. games have their own tab in the poker lobby, whereas the Razz games can be found under the 7 Stud tab. Right now, there are only a few $.02/$.04 tables available for each game type, but more will be added as the software updates are completed.

Below are descriptions of the new games:

H.O.R.S.E.

This is a fixed limit game, consisting of five rotating game types: Hold’em, Omaha High-Low, Razz, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud High-Low 8/B. Many consider H.O.R.S.E. to be a true test of a player’s skill, as one must be proficient at several different games to succeed.

In H.O.R.S.E. cash games, the game type will change every eight hands. In tournaments, it will change with each blind level.

H.O.S.E.

This is the same as H.O.R.S.E., except without Razz. Why no Razz? Because many people feel that Razz is a game that only masochists can enjoy.

Half No-Limit Hold’em/Half Omaha (H.O.)

It’s just what it sounds like. And game changes proceed just like H.O.R.S.E.

Razz

This can be a nasty game for even the best players. It is a seven card stud game, except in Razz, the object is to make the lowest hand, not the highest. Flushes and straights do not count against you (so A-2-3-4-5 is the best hand) and Aces are low. There is no qualifier, so while unlikely, it is possible to win with a King-high hand.

Bounty Tournaments

In bounty tournaments, each player has a bounty on his head. For every player you eliminate from the tournament, you receive prize money for his bounty.

In order to pay for the bounties, the tourney buy-ins are increased. Using Ultimate Bet’s example, a tournament that would normally have a $100 buy-in might now have a $110 buy-in, with the extra $10 serving as each player’s bounty.

So, with bounty tournaments, if you are able to knock a few players out, but fail to make the money, you might still finish the session with a profit!
