One would think that the month following a multi-million dollar appearance at the World Series of Poker Main Event final table would be one of celebration. For twenty-two percent of the final table, however, the weeks following the WSOP have presented their share of problems.
First, champion Jamie Gold was sued for half of his $12 million in winnings. Now, Richard Lee, the sixth place finisher, is on the hot seat.
Tuesday night, San Antonio police raided a home owned by Lee, searching for evidence of an illegal gambling operation. Apparently, they found what they were looking for, as they found receipts for deposits of payouts from gambling proceeds. It was not stated what this “gambling operation” was exactly.
Said police spokesman Joe Rios, “We're talking payouts well over $500,000. It was a pretty well-oiled machine they were running out here.”
Other items confiscated from the property included five Lexus automobiles, plasma televisions, cash, and a money-counting machine.
No arrests have been made yet.
