Online poker room, Sun Poker, who recently shut out U.S. customers because of an edict handed down by its software provider, Cryptologic, sent the following e-mail to customers today:
"By now I'm sure you are aware that recently a bill was passed through U.S Congress regarding the funding of e-gaming accounts. Our software provider Cryptologic saw fit to close all U.S player accounts and mail out checks for any remaining balances.
Although we felt this was somewhat premature, we understand Cryptologic's need to comply. We understand that many of our U.S clients continue to want to play with us after receiving great customer service and monthly bonus promotions.
Rest assured that we are currently in negotiations to produce a platform for our U.S clients to continue playing and clear any pending bonuses they may have had in their SunPoker accounts.
We will keep you informed of all developments and access dates. We greatly appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you.
All the best,
Adam S. Poker Room Manager”
What this means is not quite clear, but it could be promising. The strange thing about the third paragraph is that it does not say if the plan is to actually open up a full-fledged, full-time, permanent poker room for U.S. customers or if they are just creating something temporary so U.S. players can “continue playing and clear any pending bonuses.” The former would be great. The latter would be just a way to earn some more rake.
