Poker Pros Ante Up for Southern Nevada JCC

This coming Sunday, August 12, marks the first JCC Celebrity Poker Shootout to benefit the Southern Nevada Jewish Community Center.  Leading the way are pros Erica Schoenberg, Eli Elezra, David Benyamine, Evelyn Ng, and Mike Matusow in this no-limit hold’em poker tournament at 11:00am in the Key West ballroom at the Palms in Las Vegas.

For a $450 buy-in, players will compete for a $10,000 seat at the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event.  Live and silent auctions will be held and other prizes will be given away.

The Southern Nevada JCC has been around for over 17 years, but it has never owned a facility larger than a simple administration office.  For every program the organization has run, it has had to rent space, which makes continuity difficult, as well as adding to costs.  The JCC runs social, athletic, cultural, and educational projects around the Las Vegas area, over 500 projects in total.

On of the JCC’s largest projects is its food pantry, through which it provides meals for needy families, no matter what race or religion.  This fundraiser will help the JCC take a step closer to having its own facility for its programs so that it better serve the Las Vegas community.
