Rule Changes for 2008 WSOP

Famed Tournament Director Matt Savage recently sat down with World Series of Poker Tournament Director, Jack Effel, to discuss the upcoming WSOP.  Of major interest were several rule changes that were made in the off-season.  The good people at PokerNews.com published Savage’s interview, which was split into two parts.  Below are the rule changes.  If you would like to read the interview in its entirety, visit PokerNews.com.

New Rules for the 2008 World Series of Poker

  • If a player shows one card after the hand is over, he must show both.
  • No more excessive celebrations or “extended theatrics.”  This means the days of Humberto Brenes’ shark antics are over.
  • Online poker rooms which cater to U.S. residents will be able to advertise at the WSOP, but must use the .net versions of their sites in their advertising.
  • Cell phones may not be used at the table, regardless of whether or not a player is in a hand.
  • Players may not use headsets with devices that can be used for communication purposes, even if the intent is to just listen to music.

Other key changes include a couple new chip colors to eliminate the confusion of similar colors that plagued the WSOP last year, as well as no more alternates, except for the Main Event and Event #2.
