Richard Lee Cuts Deal

Richard Lee, the sixth place finisher at the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, has made a deal with prosecutors in a case that stems back to a raid on his San Antonio home last August.  As a result of that raid, Lee and four others were charged with misdemeanor “gambling promotion,” for their alleged involvement with an illegal sportsbook operation.

The charge carried a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine, but Lee and the others have all pleaded no contest in order to avoid jail time.  Instead, they will each be fined $2,000 and will be on deferred adjudication.  They will also give up $2.6 million in gambling winnings to the state, of which $2.2 million is from Lee’s WSOP winnings.
