Online poker room, VC Poker, has had a tawdry advertisement banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The ASA is an independent organization creating by the advertising agency to police the rules laid out in the UK advertising code. A complaint was made by a single individual who saw the ad in the restroom of a pub. It depicted a scantily clad blonde holding playing cards with the caption, “You love sex. She loves sex. You love money. She loves money. You have money. She loves you. See how much you have in common?” The complainant was offended because the ad implies that gambling creates financial and sexual prowess. The ASA determined that the ad does, in fact, imply that “…even if socially inept, could obtain sexual success.” It is against advertising code to relate sexual success with gambling services. VC Poker claims that it was only trying to communicate the idea that “everyone loves a winner.”
