William “The Manipulator” Gustafik was found dead Friday night at his condo on Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas. The poker pro, who made almost $160,000 in 2006, including a deep run at the World Series of Poker Main Event and a tenth place WPT finish, was stabbed several times. His wife, Jill Rockcastle, is the primary suspect.Rockcastle could not immediately be found by police, who were given an anonymous tip about the crime. Eventually, she was discovered unconscious at the Petit Soleil Motel in San Luis Obispo. She was not in police custody as of Wednesday, as she has been hospitalized since she was found. Authorities do not know why Rockcastle was at the motel or why she was unconscious. It all looks very suspicious, but she is still just a suspect. No motive for the murder has been determined, which makes this all the more confusing. “It’s a domestic homicide and we have to look at all the motives that usually go with domestic homicides like money, marital problems and everyday stress,” said Lt. Lew Roberts of the San Luis Obispo police department. Gustafik was one of the most muscular poker players anyone will ever see. His mere presence at the table was more than enough to intimidate the other players, which is probably why he acquired the nickname, “The Manipulator.” In his player profile on PokerPages.com, Gustafik expressed his love for his wife and child: “Being a chiropractor by profession, I plan to go from cracking backs to cracking the stakes of the best pro. I plan to play all WPT and WSOP events. With my beautiful wife by my side and my 9 yr old daughter giving me tips, nothing can stop me.”
