PPA Leading Phone Campaign in Support of Online Poker

Published: Monday, September 11, 2006

On Tuesday, September 12, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is leading a “phone march” on Capitol Hill in order to defend the rights of American online poker players. This summer, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, threatening the future of internet poker in this country. The bill may soon be up for vote in the Senate.

Anyone who would like to make their voices heard in force, in addition to writing your Senators, can call 1-800-289-1136 (toll free) on Tuesday to participate in the “phone march.” Callers will hear a message from poker champion Greg Raymer, followed by a prompt for their zip code. They will then be transferred to one of their Senator’s offices. There is no charge for this service.

The toll free number will be available from 9:00am EST to 5:30am EST on September 12.

The PPA has the following suggestions for key points to make when you call, but your own, personal message is up to you:

* I am voter in your state.
* I strongly oppose any legislation that would prohibit online poker, and urge the Senator to vote against such legislation.
* Poker is a skill game enjoyed by 70 Million Americans.
* The Senator should seek to regulate online poker much like the government regulates other forms of gaming, like lotteries.
* Prohibitions don’t work. Any legislation that tries to ban online poker will only drive those players underground.
* Again, I urge the Senator to oppose any attempts to prohibit me from playing the great American game of poker on the Internet.
