PokerTime Breaks Off from Microgaming

It is not unusual to see online poker rooms leave their networks to head for greener pastures.  What is unusual, however, is when that poker room leaves, but doesn’t really go…anywhere.  Such is the case with PokerTime.

On Thursday, PokerTime took its first step towards becoming a private poker room by moving all of its hold’em tables of stakes $1/$2 and below off of the Microgaming network and onto their own, self-contained network.  All of the other games will remain on Microgaming’s network for the time being.  PokerTime will also continue to use Microgaming’s software, even after it is completely private.

PokerTime’s goal is to be able to offer “bigger and better exclusive promotions” to its customers, including healthy bonuses and private tournaments.  Typically, online poker rooms offer standard promotions handed down by their networks, with little leeway for customization.  By being able to come up with its own promos, while still allowing its players to participate in Microgaming network tournaments, PokerTime believes its customers will have the best of both worlds.
