Macau is one of the largest gambling hotbeds in the world, but surprisingly, has never had a live poker room. Until now. PokerStars, the largest poker room on the internet, will open PokerStars Macau Friday at the Grand Waldo Hotel and Casino. The room will hold 160 players and will run both cash games and tournaments. The inaugural tournament will be the first event of the “Macau Poker Cup,” a poker series which will run throughout the weekend. This first event will actually be a charity tournament to raise money for China’s earthquake victims. The minimum suggested donation (buy-in) is HKD $2,000. PokerStars will be putting up at least HKD $150,000 in prizes for the tournament, including three HKD $25,000 entries into the APPT Macau Main Event. PokerStars is also running online satellites for the Macau Poker Cup events. The Asia-Pacific Poker Tour will begin at PokerStars Macau with the APPT Macau Main Event. The HKD $25,000 buy-in tournament will run September 1-6 and have a guaranteed prize pool of HKD $10 million.
