The 15th annual Life Ball, Europe’s largest charity event, will be held on May 26 in Vienna, Austria. A spectacle to say the least (the website says the dress code is “as crazy as possible”), the Life Ball is dedicated to the global fight against AIDS. This year, PokerStars will be one of the primary sponsors of the event, in addition to being its exclusive poker partner. Among the myriad of events at this year’s Life Ball will be a charity poker tournament held by PokerStars, featuring celebrities and few lucky PokerStars customers. The winner will receive $100,000 to donate to the cause. PokerStars is currently running daily “AIDS Charity” freerolls at 2:00pm EST. Those who make the final three tables in each will advance to one of two freeroll finals, held on May 6 and May 20. The winner of each final will receive a Life Ball prize package. The next seventeen finishers in each final will win PokerStars merchandise. The grand prize packages include two Life Ball tickets, a seat at the celebrity charity poker event, and round trip flights to Vienna plus hotel accommodations. As stated earlier, the winner of the poker tournament in Vienna will get the honor handing over a $100,000 check to Life Ball. The winner will also receive a non-cash prize. In addition to the $100,000, PokerStars will contribute $1 for every charity freeroll participant. Each qualifying event has a maximum capacity of 2,000 entrants, so PokerStars could end up chipping in an extra $2,000 each day for the charity. Originally published 11:45 AM Wednesday, May 02, 2007
