PokerStars Launches New Sit and Go Promo

It has been in the works for a while, and now PokerStars has finally launched its new sit-and-go leaderboard promotion, Battle of the Planets. Designed to reward players of all stakes, no matter how much they play, the promotion will dole out prizes worth more than $3 million each year.

In Battle of the Planets, sit-and-go tournaments have been organized into eight divisions, each named after a planet, based on the tournament buy-in. Each of these divisions is then split into two leaderboards, or “orbits.” The Low Orbit is for more casual players, whereas the High Orbit is for heavy volume players.

For every sit-and-go with fewer than forty players, points are awarded for cashing. Then, based on the buy-in, these points are added up for the appropriate division and orbit. In the Low Orbits, the points are recorded in blocks of 20 tournaments. Players may play five separate blocks of 20, with the best score counting for the leaderboard. Tournaments are not mixed and matched to comprise a block. Rather, they are counted in sequential order – tournaments 1 through 20 are the first block, 21 through 40 are the second, etc. These points and blocks are calculated for a given week.

The High Orbit leaderboard is calculated in the same way, except that the blocks consist of 100 tournaments. There are no limits to the number of blocks in the High Orbit.

At the end of each week, those who finish the highest on each leaderboard win money. Additionally, every player that finishes in the top ten of a leaderboard receives an entry into a monthly $50,000 triple shootout.

Divisions start at buy-ins as low as $1 and go up to buy-ins $300 and up.
