Customers traveled from as far as southern New Jersey just to get free gas in Manhattan on Friday. Not because it was cheaper, but because it was…free.
As part of a promotion called “Kiss My Gas,” internet poker room, PokerShare.com, gave up to $40 worth of gasoline to New York (and New Jersey) drivers in an effort to promote the poker room and give people a chance to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend without worrying about gas prices.
The madness started at 6:00am at the Westside Highway gas station at the corner of Canal Street and Westside Highway. Lines spanned ten blocks and even backed up all the way to the Brooklyn Bridge. By the time the New York City police finally shut the promotion down, PokerShare had donated over eight thousand gallons to thrilled commuters. It’s not that the police wanted to end the fun, considering some of the customers were off-duty cops and city officials, but they had to because of the traffic problems it was causing.
PokerShare plans on continuing the “Kiss My Gas” promotion in different cities around the United States. Where the PokerShare Pump Girls appear next is up to the public. Voting is currently going on at PokerShare’s website, http://www.pokershare.com.
