  • Full Tilt Poker announced the schedule for the tenth edition of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS), which will start November 5.  Just like the last FTOPS, there will be 25 events, culminating with the $535 buy-in no-limit hold’em Main Event on November 16, which boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $2.5 million.  The total guaranteed prize pool across all events will be over $15 million.  The bonus prizes, such as special FTOPS jackets, jerseys, and avatars, all remain in place this go-around, as does the “Bouncebackability” Freeroll.  Overall, not much has changed from FTOPS IX to FTOPS X, except for the big two-day event, which will begin on November 15.  The buy-in has doubled, going from $2,620 to $5,200, and the tables will be six-handed.  Player “dubbeemin” won the FTOPS IX Main Event, outlasting 4,879 players and winning the $2.5 million guaranteed prize money.

  • The USO of Metropolitan Washington and the Poker Players Alliance organized a visit by several professional poker players to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center this week.  Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, Phil Gordon, Victor Ramdin, Gavin Griffin, 2006 World Series of Poker final table member Rhett Butler, current chip leader in the 2008 WSOP Dennis Phillips, and Poker After Dark hostess Leeann Tweeden, visited with injured soldiers and their families and joined them in a friendly poker tournament.  “Joining the USO and visiting our troops, who have sacrificed so much, was one of the most emotional and rewarding experiences of my life,” commented Lederer.  Added Phillips, “You just want to stand up and shout to the world about what an honor it is to be allowed to play cards with these heroes who sacrificed so much to protect our liberties.”

  • More than $43,000 was raised for charity this past weekend, as poker players flocked to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the Fourth-Annual Road 2 Recovery Charity Poker Tournament.  Road 2 Recovery is an organization founded by Bob Moore, Jimmy Button, and Bob Walker in order to provide financial assistance to AMA licensed professional motocross and supercross members who have their careers cut short due to injury.  Sixty-seven players, including Todd Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Marco Traniello, Chip Jett, and Hoyt Corkins participated, each donating $300 for the buy-in.  One hundred sixty $100 re-buys added to the total donation, as did the numerous bids on sports memorabilia in a silent auction.  In the end, it was UltimateBet’s Tiffany Michelle who won the tournament and a $10,000 seat into the 2009 WSOP Main Event.
