  • PartyGaming reported revenue growth in all four of its business units for the first half of 2008, according to a report released by the company this week.  Casino revenues showed the largest dollar amount increase, $24.8 million, or 38 percent compared to the first half of 2007.  The largest percentage jump, 82 percent, was in bingo, which grew from $1.1 million to $2 million.  Sports betting revenues were up 36 percent, or $2.3 million.  Party Poker, the company’s renowned online poker room, only saw revenues increase 6 percent, but the total revenue, $153.9 million, was more than the other units combined.  In the company’s press release, it also briefly discussed a relaunch and rebranding of Party Poker that will occur over the second half of the year.

  • Tuesday night, the Poker Players Alliance raised over $60,000 for the Paralyzed Veterans of America through a charity poker tournament at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.  Actor and Oscar winner Ben Affleck emerged as the winner of the tournament at Coors Field, although he did not win the seat in the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of Poker, as was originally planned.  The PPA had to give away the seat in a raffle, as giving it to the winner would have violated Colorado gambling law.  Other celebrities in attendance included Affleck’s fellow Oscar winner, Richard Dreyfuss, Saturday Night Live star Seth Myers, and talk show host Montel Williams, who has held charity poker tournaments of his own to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research.  Congressional friends of poker, Barney Frank, Robert Wexler, and Shelley Berkley, were all there, as were poker pros Andy Bloch, Victor Ramdin, and Barry Greenstein.

  • Full Tilt Poker announced the lineup for its Million Dollar Cash Game on Thursday, which includes many of the names you might expect to see in a high stakes poker game sponsored by the popular online poker room.  Full Tilt pros Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch, Patrik Antonius, Chris Ferguson, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Jennifer Harman, Eli Elezra, Allen Cunningham, Gus Hansen, and Mike Matusow are all scheduled to play.  Phil Hellmuth, Tony G, and Tom Dwan are also expected to play.  In Full Tilt Poker’s Million Dollar Cash Game, each player must put up at least $100,000 of his or her own money.  Last year, Ivey faced off with Antonius and won a pot worth $807,400, which was the largest pot ever on televised poker at the time.  Emblaze Productions will film the contest in London on September 17th and 18th.  Sky Sports 2 Digital will broadcast the show in January in Europe.  Full Tilt is also hosting its $25,000 Heads-Up Pot Limit Omaha World Championship online on September 6th and 7th, with sixty-four entrants maximum.  The final three satellites into the event will be held August 30th, August 31st, and September 2nd.
