  • The International Poker Network (generally known as Boss Media) has come under serious fire over the past few days. The First Hall Civil Court of Malta has issued a major blow to IPN in the form of a preliminary judgment in favor of former IPN skin, PokerTrillion.com. PokerTrillion is suing IPN for a breach of contract and while the suit itself is yet to be litigated, IPN has been ordered to freeze at least €20,000,000 in assets in preparation of a possible decision. In addition to the stiff monetary penalty, IPN has been given until September 18th, 2008 to cease all commercial activities conducted via servers in Malta or face further penalties. IPN has issued a statement ensuring its many members that any ceasing of Maltese Server activity is unlikely to actually occur but if “In the extremely unlikely event that any Malta operations would be affected, high-performance back-up systems are in place to ensure continued service to all our customers and players.”

  • In the wake of continued disputes between Ladbrokes and Swedish Gaming Monopoly Svenska Spel, Norway’s Progress Party has pledged to open up the Scandinavian country to private gaming operations. Representatives of the most popular party in Norway have stated that a part of social progress will be recognizing the omnipresence of online gaming and the futility of State sponsored monopolies against it. Per Sandberg, deputy leader of the Progress Party issued the following, “The morality of casinos and gambling is always being discussed…These are modern times… This is not a moral issue.” No date has yet been set but the Nordic Parliament is expected to enact the changes by the end of the 2009 calendar year.
