  • U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX) introduced HR 6663 on Friday.  The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Clarification and Implementation Act of 2008, as it’s called, seeks to sort out the UIGEA and determine exactly which type of internet gambling is legal and which type is illegal.  The bill also provides amnesty for those online gambling companies that offered their services to U.S. residents before the UIGEA was signed into law and then exited the U.S. market post-UIGEA, provided they did not offer sports betting.

  • The World Poker Tour announced that its subscription-based online poker room, Club WPT, will hold special tournaments that will air on Fox Sports Net.  Club WPT members will compete online to win seats into live poker and blackjack tournaments.  For $19.95 per month, members receive magazine subscriptions, travel discounts, and other special content, in addition to the ability to play poker online.  Recently, the WPT inked a deal with Fox Sports Net to broadcast its seventh season on the network.

  • The Full Tilt Poker Online Poker Series IX begins Wednesday, featuring its largest total guaranteed prize pool in its history.  With twenty-five events spread across twelve days, Full Tilt players will have the opportunity to win a piece of a minimum total prize pool of $15 million.  FTOPS IX culminates with the $535 buy-in no-limit hold’em Main Event on August 17, which boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $2.5 million.  The bonus prizes, such as special FTOPS jackets, jerseys, and avatars, all remain in place this go-around, while the “Mystery Tournaments” have been eliminated after a lone appearance during the last Series.

  • The American Gaming Association (AGA) kicked off Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW) on Monday.  RGEW is targeted towards casino employees, who are urged to “…begin a conversation about responsible gaming at home, on the job and in the community.”  Ameristar casinos have hit the ground running, putting responsible gaming notes in the on-hold messages of their phone systems.  At New York New York casino on the Las Vegas strip, participating employees are wearing orange wristbands and may get lucky and be singled out by a “Prize Patrol” for answering questions about responsible gaming.  The AGA does support online gambling, as long as states have the regulatory rights, the competitive playing field amongst existing gaming operations stays level, and no form of gaming that is currently legal becomes illegal.
