Top poker professionals Scott Fischman and Martin de Knijff have recently partnered with two established online poker networks to start their own online poker rooms. Fischman, winner of two bracelets at the 2004 World Series of Poker, has lent his name to TheFishTank, part of the Doyle Brunson Poker Network, while de Knijff, winner of a record prize at the 2004 WPT Championship, has teamed up with the 24h Poker network to create MartinsPoker.
Professional poker players have been spokespeople for online poker rooms ever since the poker boom began, but it is evident that some are now making the transition from simply being faces to actually being the name behind the site. By partnering with poker networks, these pros are able to combine their marketing abilities as high profile players with the established software and built-in customer base of the larger networks. Without the networks, one would need to find a company to develop the software and generate player activity from scratch, both daunting tasks. Without the well-known personality, an entrepreneur would need a much larger marketing budget. The combination of the two could make for a happy marriage and we might very well see many more poker professionals get into the act in the future.
