As reported here last week, online poker room Check n Raise Poker, informed ten players who won World Series of Poker seats at its site that it would not be able to make good on its deal. Monday, rival poker room, Poker.com, announced that those players would be playing in the WSOP, after all.
Poker.com, with the approval of Check n Raise, will be paying for the WSOP entries for all ten winners, three of whom won seats into the Main Event. Each player will receive Poker.com’s standard package, including spending money. On top of this, Check n Raise still plans to pay out 110% of the prize package value to the winners to make up for the original unfortunate situation.
Maybe it’s public relations move by Poker.com, maybe it’s truly a gesture of goodwill, maybe it’s a bit of both. No matter what the reasons Poker.com may have for spending money on players who aren’t even its own customers, it is a pleasure to be able to report that a poker room is doing something for the players. Needless to say, Poker.com probably has a few very loyal new customers now.
Said Poker.com’s Director of Gaming, Paul Cherry, “Our own players are like family to us and we'd hate to see these ChecknRaise players miss out due to no fault of their own. That’s why we are offering to help them get to Vegas as a part of the Poker.com family and enjoy the trip they have won and earned. A trip that includes the chance to win a World Series of Poker bracelet!”
