Coming off his runner-up finish to Tuan Le at the World Poker Tour Championship at the Bellagio, England’s Paul Maxfield has been named the WilliamHillPoker.Com European Poker Tour Player of the Month for April 2005. The almost $1.7 million prize launched Maxfield to eighth on the WPT all-time money list.
It was a very close race for the Player of the Month title, but Maxfield might have made it a runaway with just a little bit more luck at the Bellagio. According to Phil Quayle, Poker Room Manager at William Hill, “Paul can be considered very unlucky not to have won at the Bellagio, only a rivered middle pin straight preventing him from taking the title in the biggest event of the year. This result should give all Europeans that travel to the World Series a huge boost of confidence.”
Nipping at Maxfield’s heels for the honor were Joe Grech, Cemal “Jimmy” Alp, and Stuart Nash.
William Hill awards the title to player deemed to have had the most successful month on the European Poker Tour. The finalists are selected based on both their tournament results as well as their progress in the rankings.
Rob Hollink of Groningen, Holland, was the inaugural Player of the Month for March 2005 after winning the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
