Mac Poker users rejoice. You finally have another option for playing online poker. And it's a BIG one.
Party Poker, the largest poker room on the internet, has just released its new beta "no download" version, allowing players on both PCs (both Windows and Linux) and Macs to play from anywhere at any time. Party joins the Ongame Network (PokerRoom, most notably), Full Tilt Poker, and Pacific Poker as online poker rooms at which Mac users can play.
Note, however, that since it is only a beta version right now, Mac users will not be able to play for real money just yet. The no download client can be played in the Internet Explorer, Safari, or Firefox browsers.
Currently, this beta client is a very stripped down version of the downloadable client. Features that are missing include (courtesy of Party Poker's website):
* Table filters * Buddy lists and search * Hand history * Table search * Private tables * Poker trainer * Dealer options on the poker table * Network status * Table resizing, tiling, and cascading
Regardless of the current functionality, this is a big step forward for Party Poker and should be well received by the poker playing public. There is no word yet on how soon the beta period will end, but Mac players should be able to play for real money on Party Poker in the near future.
More information about the new client can be found at the Party Poker website.
