The French television network, Direct 8, will debut its new poker show, “Direct Poker,” this Friday night. The show will run every Friday night at 9:45pm (local time) through the grand finale on July 13.
Sponsored by Everest Poker, the show will resemble Mansion Poker’s “Poker Dome Challenge” in that it will pit six players each week against each other in a speed poker match. Each player will only have fifteen seconds in which to act.
The first eighteen weeks will feature preliminary matches in which the top two players will move on to the semi-finals. These thirty-six remaining players will be split into six tables, with the winner of each moving on to the July 13th grand finale.
The winner of the final table will receive a seat at the 2007 World Series of Poker Main event and the largest share of the $25,000 prize pool.
The competition is open only to French residents eighteen years of age and older. Players can qualify for free on the internet.
