March 16 was supposed to be the day that the case against Neteller founders Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre was supposed to be heard in court, but for the third time, the U.S. government was granted a continuance. The hearing is now scheduled for April 16.
It should be noted, however, that according to Rebekah Carmichael, Information Officer for the United States Attorney, Southern District of New York, "all parties must agree to it.” Thus, while the government requested the continuance, the defendants were fine with it, too. It is not known exactly why continuances are consistently requested and granted.
Lawrence and Lefebvre were arrested January 16. According to Michael Garcia, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, the two were arrested, “…in connection with the creation and operation of an internet payment services company that facilitated the transfer of billions of dollars of illegal gambling proceeds from United States citizens to the owners of various internet gambling companies located overseas.”
Or, to summarize further, “…conspiring to transfer funds with the intent to promote illegal gambling.”
