Nancy Cartwright to Host Poker Fundraiser

For the second time in four months, Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, is hosting a charity poker tournament to benefit a cause close to her heart.  On December 15, she will open up her home to all comers for the tournament, which will cost $75 to enter.  Those who wish to simply attend, but not play can do so for $25.  Children are admitted for $5.

The cause this time is Happy House, co-founded by Cartwright along with writer and documentary producer, Rose Goss.  The mission of Happy House is “…to help bring about a safer community by ‘Building Better Families.’”  A “family” can be any group of people, not just blood relations who live in the same house.  The organization strives for “…a healthy world where people can trust one another and not live in fear, where there is mutual respect and a true sense of community.”

Leading up to the tournament, Cartwright will be mailing out one million booklets titled “The Way to Happiness” to people in the San Fernando Valley.  Written by L. Ron Hubbard (although Cartwright claims it has nothing to do with religion or anything of the sort), the booklet is billed as a “common sense guide to happy living.”

In September, Cartwright hosted the second annual Monte Carlo night to benefit the Devonshire (California) PALS (Police Activities League Supporters) Youth Center for at-risk children.
