More Charity Poker – Montel Williams

Typically, the Christmas season is the time for giving, but in the poker world, it seems as though the charitable season starts a little later.  Several charity poker tournaments are popping up, the latest of which will be hosted by Montel Williams on March 13.  The MS Foundation Gala and Pro-Celebrity Poker Challenge will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City at 6:00pm.  Tickets for the event start at $1,000.

A cocktail reception and dinner will kick off the festivities.  These will be followed by entertainment, an awards reception, and a celebrity poker tournament.

Williams himself was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999 and has championed the cause ever since.  The Montel Williams MS Foundation, to which the proceeds of the event will go, has raised more than $1 million for MS research, while Williams himself has personally raised $1.1 million.  There currently is no cure for the disease, which attacks the brain and nervous system, damaging a wide array of motor and sensory functions.

Montel Williams is an avid poker player and actually held the chip lead at the 2007 WSOP Main Event for a short time during the first day.

Those who would like to purchase tickets can call (212) 843-1745.
