MGM Mirage has announced that the Monte Carlo Casino will reopen on Friday, February 15, just three weeks after a rooftop fire forced the evacuation of approximately 5,000 guests and 1,000 employees. Nobody was seriously injured in the blaze, which primarily damaged the rooftop façade of the building. 1,200 guest rooms will be available for occupancy Friday, with another 1,300 ready to go by February 22. The remaining 500, which are on the upper floors, will be completely renovated. Most of the property’s facilities, including the casino, meeting and convention rooms, and restaurants, will be open starting Friday, as well. The buffet and Monte Carlo Brew Pub will open based on demand. Lance Burton’s popular magic show will also resume on Friday. Clark County fire inspectors have determined that the cause of the fire was flying molten metal, combined with poor safety procedures by welders who were cutting steel for a walkway. Union Erectors, the company which was doing the work, disputes the findings.
