Mirage Poker Showdown Day 2 – Standings Turned Upside-Down

Published: Monday, May 21, 2007

With only 40 players left after the second day of the World Poker Tour’s Mirage Poker Showdown, the money is within site.  Only 13 players are left to be eliminated before the bubble is burst.

The story of this day was how topsy-turvy the standings had become when compared with Day 1.  Daniel Alaei: from 2nd to 37th.  Shannon Shorr: 4th to 35th.  Geoffrey Sanford: 5th to eliminated.  Jeff Blenkarn: 6th to eliminated.  Anthony Newman: 7th to eliminated.

On the other side of fortune, Phil Ivey leapt from 75th to 2nd.  John D’Agostino: 81st to 4th.  Richard Kirsch: 107th to 5th.  Jon Friedberg: 72nd to 6th.  Jonathan Little: 142nd to 9th

At the end of the day, Darrell Dicken was one of the few to start play amongst the leaders and end amongst the leaders, finishing as the overall chip leader with just over half a million chips.  His next closest competitor, Phil Ivey, has less than 300,000.

Play resumes Monday as plans are to whittle the field to 27, when all remaining players will be in the money.  As that only requires 13 bust-outs, it may go quick enough to allow for further play.
