Lee Jones, poker room manager at the online poker room, Poker Stars, announced this week that he will be leaving that position as of April 1. One of the biggest friends of the online poker community, Jones explained his decision on internet poker message boards, including the one run by 2+2 publishing.
Jones said that he is making the change “to expand [his] horizons and stretch some new muscles.” He will still be working with Poker Stars, moving over to work with the European Poker Tour. While Jones will organize, host, and provide television commentary for EPT events, he will still serve as a consultant for PokerStars and assist with some of the live events that the poker room sponsors.
While Jones did not say so, one could also speculate that part of the reason he is leaving his position is because of the continued legal threats to online poker, particularly from the United States. Even if Jones himself was never to get in trouble with the law, he may have decided that it would be best to reduce his exposure to the online game, should conditions in the industry deteriorate further. Again, this is just speculation. Poker fans around the world wish Lee Jones the best in his new endeavor. He has been a great ambassador for online poker and will surely continue to be one for poker in general.
