JohnnyBax Joins Team UB

If you are an embattled poker room looking to improve its image, one way to do it is to get a well-respected online poker player to endorse your site.  That is exactly what UltimateBet did Tuesday, as it announced that Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy has signed on to be part of its new “Star Player” team.

“I have always enjoyed playing at UltimateBet,” said Josephy in a post on PocketFives.com. “The interface and the structure are 2nd to none. It is my belief that management is committed to doing the right things on a going forward basis. Thus, I have decided to support them. I will do all I can to ensure the players really like the improved UB.”

Josephy has won over one million dollars on both the live tournament circuit and the online tournament circuit.  In his short online poker career, which has only been going since 2005, he has quickly become an icon.  He currently ranks twelfth in the P5’s online tournament rankings, but sat in the top position for over a year.  He has won countless online tournaments, but wowed the poker world when he took home a bracelet at the 2005 World Series of Poker.  Why is this more impressive than the hundreds of other players who have won bracelets?  Josephy had never played seven card stud, that event’s game, before the tournament.  He got a crash course from Scott Fischman shortly before the tournament started – that was the extent of his training.

Josephy’s largest cash was for more than $440k at the 2006 UltimateBet Aruba Poker Open.
