FTOPS V Event #8 – “Kiajessie” Wins Omaha High-Low

It wasn’t quite a wire-to-wire victory, but Kiajessie went into the final table of the eighth FTOPS V event, the limit Omaha high-low tournament, with the chip lead and emerged victorious at the end of the night.  And what a long night it was.  As this was a fixed limit tournament, it took the field of just over 1,000 entrants ten hours to finish.

Kiajessie’s chip stack sat at about 700,000 to start, 160,000 more than his nearest competitor.  But with blinds at the final table starting at 25,000/50,000, even the big stack couldn’t rest too easy.

The two shortest stacks were the first to be sent to the rail.  bayne_s had no chance to make any headway, with only 7,279 to start and was the 9th place finisher.  cashnotax fell to Ditka89 next, giving Ditka the chip lead.

But Ditka89 missed his draws and gave up any advantage he had, eventually being the next player to find the rail.  After Ditka, the hits kept coming, with Kiajessie out-kicking Gunslinger3 and SDLARRY losing to AD-Stars22’s quad nines.  AD-Stars took only a few more hands to take the tournament down to three players, knocking out Adar in 4th place.  From nine to three in the blink of an eye.

With the blinds at 40,000/80,000 going into three-handed play, it was really almost a crapshoot, as there were only about 3.1 million chips on the table.  Ad-Stars22 was hurting early, down to only 200,000, but was able to rebound back to around one million, forging a virtual three-way tie with both Kiajessie and muckmehard.  But Ad-Stars22 was soon back down to about 200,000 and this time, couldn’t make another run, falling to Kiajessie in 3rd place.

Going into heads-up, muckmehard had a 2-to-1 chip lead on Kiajessie and soon had his opponent down to 200,000 chips.  But Kiajessie went all-in and doubled-up, climbing to half a million.  Soon thereafter, he had pulled even, thanks to a couple full houses.  After finally losing the chip lead, muckmehard went all-in on a board that showed trip sixes, holding pocket Aces for a boat.  But Kiajessie was hiding the fourth six to scoop the pot and take the FTOPS crown.
