As was reported last week, Congressman Barney Frank introduced the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007 on Capitol Hill in an effort to reverse the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and allow for legal, regulated online gambling in the U.S. But simply introducing the bill is just the first step. Rep. Frank knows where he is going with this. According to eGaming Review, Rep. Frank has said that he will not advance the bill to a vote on the House floor unless he is certain that he has garnered enough votes from his colleagues to get it passed. He will not put a losing bill to a vote. Frank told eGaming Review that he already has the support of a number of Representatives. Because he is Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, he can control the timeline of the IGREA. When it hits the House floor, poker fans should feel confident. “The process is,” he told eGaming Review, “if and when I think I have the votes, I will have the votes on it.” Originally published 11:59 PM Monday, April 30, 2007
