Derek Dilberian outplayed approximately 4,000 fellow college and university students on May 26 to win Absolute Poker’s “College Poker Challenge” and earn his fall semester’s tuition at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law.
While the field of online poker players was technically capped at 2,000 students, Absolute held qualifying tournaments to narrow the field when more than 2,000 players registered.
Interestingly, Dilberian had never played in an online poker tournament before competing in the Challenge.
Providence College student, Tim Mannion, placed second and won a Dell laptop computer.
The next Challenge will be held in November 2005, with satellites in October. Interested students can visit http://www.absolutepoker.com/college/main_tuition2.asp for complete details and registration.
