The poker tournaments took place on March 6 and April 17, but the charity for which they were held says it still has not seen a dime of the proceeds. Police are currently investigating the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s claim against the Beverly, Massachusetts, Franco-American Club, but tournament organizer, Scott Grey, says he sent an $8,000 check weeks ago.
"I'm trying to do a good thing here and it's backfiring on me," he said. "I've done everything everybody's asked me to do."
While nobody has been charged with any crimes, police have contacted the state attorney general’s office.
It appears that Grey may be telling the truth, as Beverly Police Chief John Cassola has received a faxed copy of the check from Grey, as well as a copy of the accompanying letter. Regardless, the charity says it has not received the check, so the investigation continues.
