Card Player and Bluff, your enemy to the north is no longer a threat. Fifth Street Publishers announced earlier this month that because of a decline in advertising, Canadian Poker Player magazine will cease publication. Technically, the company’s official statement read that the magazine has “…become dormant for the time being,” but in reality, it’s game over. Canadian Poker Player had been published since January 2004 and, while not nearly as large as the industry leaders, it had carved out a solid niche in Canada. With high-profile contributors over the years such as Daniel Negreanu, Jim Worth, and Lou Krieger, among others, the magazine had high quality strategy, lifestyle, psychology, and even fiction content. Of course, much of the magazine focused on Canada, including features about the Canadian Poker Tour, interviews with top Canadian players, and, more recently, a recurring mailbag with Gavin Smith. Additionally, another Fifth Street-owned asset, the aforementioned Canadian Poker Tour, has shut down because of a lack of sponsorship.
