Calgary-based HeadsUp Entertainment announced today the schedule for the 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships. The event will take place March 5-9, 2008 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The highlight event of the Championships is a heads-up tournament with a maximum capacity of 128 players, twice as big as NBC’s National Heads-Up Poker Championship. 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships Schedule March 5 - $500 no-limit hold’em – 250 player max – 5% of the buy-in will go to Breast Cancer Research March 6 - $5,000 no-limit hold’em heads-up Main Event (Day 1) – 128 player max March 7 - $1,500 no-limit hold’em short-handed – 200 player max March 8 - $1,000 no-limit hold’em – 300 player max March 9 - $500 no-limit hold’em – 300 player max Last year’s heads-up Main Event was won by James Lopushinsky from the Yukon Territory. Lopushinsky had an extremely tough road to the championship, needing to knock off Doug Lee, his mentor Brad Booth, and Huck Seed before ousting Karim Chatur in the finals.
