Now that the World Series of Poker has grown out of its former home at Binion’s Gambling Hall in downtown Las Vegas, the legendary poker temple needs its own poker tournament series to get itself back in the game. Enter the Binion’s Poker Classic, which begins its maiden run on May 31. The Classic was actually introduced to the poker world at the end of the 2005 World Series of Poker, which was the last time the WSOP was held at Binion’s. It took two years, however, to get the event off the ground. Running through July 4, the Binion’s Poker Classic is essentially a mini-WSOP, with thirty-six tournaments spanning almost every poker variation imaginable. It even commences with a casino employee’s event. The buy-ins are very low compared to the WSOP, with most falling in the $100-$200 range. The three priciest events are a $1,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament on June 30, and two $500 no-limit hold’em tournaments on July 3 and July 4.
