Austria’s National Poker Site Starts Strong

It’s been a week since win2day.at, the new Austrian state-run online poker room, was launched, and so far, things are going well.  According to figures published by PokerScount.com, the site has already seen a cash game player peak of 500, which puts it just behind the established Merge Gaming Network (Carbon Poker).  win2day is only the second government-run poker site, following the successful Svenska Spel of Sweden.

In fact, Svenska Spel assisted win2day in its development.  Like Svenska Spel, the Austrian site opted to use Boss Media’s software platform.  Win2day is jointly operated by the Austrian lottery and Casinos Austria, which also advertises its land-based casinos and events on the site.

Win2day, feeling the need to protect its players more than most poker sites probably do, gives players the option to self-exclude, in addition to placing an €800 weekly deposit limit.  The responsible gaming page also provides information on how to spot a possible gambling addiction, tips for parents, and advice for those new to gambling.
