AOL to Award Nine Seats to 2007 WSOP

Starting yesterday, AOL Games will be holding free no-limit hold’em poker tournaments in which players can compete to try to win one of nine $10,000 seats at the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event.

AOL will host four tournaments each day Monday through Saturday at noon, 3:00pm, 6:00pm, and 9:00pm (Eastern time).  The top 100 finishers in each will advance to that week’s Sunday Main Event tournament, where the winner will receive the seat at the WSOP.

No download is required.  The poker software is Java-based.

The fact that this is promotion is officially sanctioned by Harrah’s is curious, considering the company announced a while back that it would not be accepting U.S. player entries from online poker rooms.  It looks like as long as Harrah’s has the World Series stamp on the tournament, then online qualifiers are fine.

With at least 2,000 players competing in each qualifying tournament (as has been the trend so far) and only one seat awarded in the weekly final, the chances of winning anything are slim to none.  But, since it’s free, it’s worth a shot if you have a few hours to kill.

Tournament details and signup can be found at http://wsop.aol.com.
