Poker fans may remember Israeli Rafi Amit’s first World Series of Poker bracelet in 2005, as it featured one of the most unusual moments in WSOP history. Amit had just crippled Vinny Vinh in heads-up play in the final pot-limit Omaha event of the summer when he was assessed a ten minute penalty for foul language. His supporters were outraged, Amit pleaded with the floor to not assess the silly penalty at such an important stage of the tournament, and Vinh was vilified for proceeding to take Amit’s blinds. Amit lost close to 200,000 chips in those ten minutes, which wasn’t a ton, but it was still something. Amit and Vinh jawed at each other for a while when Amit returned, but eventually they calmed down and Amit went on to win. There were no such fireworks this year. Amit began the final table, which started at 7:00pm because the previous day went so late, second in chips and made a steady drive towards the bracelet over the course of five hours. With the victory, Amit is now one bracelet behind Eli Balas in the race to become the most decorated WSOP player from Israel. Interestingly, Amit’s only tournament cashes – six of them – have all come at the World Series of Poker. Final Table Standings - Rafi Amit -- $227,005
- Lenny Martin -- $128,120
- Anthony Lellouche -- $84,812
- Jon Shoreman -- $57,383
- Eugene Ji -- $41,504
- Mark Bartlog -- $27,068
