2007 WSOP Event #46 – Tom Schneider Wins $1,000 Seven Card Stud High-Low

Scott Fischman did it in 2004.  Mark Seif pulled it off in 2005.  Both Bill Chen and Jeff Madsen accomplished the feat in 2006.  And this summer, for the fourth year in a row, a player has won two bracelets in the same World Series of Poker.  This time, it is Tom Schneider, also the champion of the Omaha High-Low/Seven Card Stud mixed event.  In addition to winning the bracelet and $147,713, Schneider is also the front runner for the WSOP’s Player of the Year award.

Schneider is the author of OOPS! I Won Too Much Money: Winning Wisdom from the Boardroom to the Poker Table, a book in which he collects his wisdom from business, poker, and life into sixty-one informative and entertaining stories.  After his success at the WSOP, one wouldn’t be surprised to see the sales of the book climb.

Schneider started the final table with the chip lead, but as the result of a torrid run by Miguel De La Cruz, he soon found himself kicked off the top of the mountain.  But, after dropping to the middle of the pack with five players left, Schneider picked up the pace, scooping two pots in a row.  Shortly after play went four handed, he took a huge pot from de la Cruz to tie Hoyt Verner for the chip lead.  Those two were way ahead of de la Cruz and Scotty Nguyen, with almost 600,000 chips each compared to the short stacks’ sub-100,000 chip counts.

Verner and Schneider went into heads-up very close in chips and it was a back and forth affair throughout.  First, Schneider made a run, then Verner struck back to take almost a 2-to-1 lead, only to have Schneider return the favor.  Verner pulled even once more before Schneider took over and ran away with the title.

Final Table Standings

  1. Tom Schneider -- $147,713
